The Mission & Accomplishments
The Geisler & Geisler-Lee Laboratory has a guideline for lab members to follow and the standards for students to achieve.
The mission of the laboratory is:
“We are employing both –omics computational biology and experimentation to understand gene regulatory networks, plant biotic and abiotic stresses, and competition in multiple organisms. Our goals are to educate our lab members to become scientists and scholars with ability, skills, and confidence to (1) abide by public safety policy and lab regulation to hold themselves accountable, (2) design and do research, and (3) present their research results in oral and written format in order to work in academics, industry, non-profit organizations, or government.”
The accomplishments of the Geisler & Geisler-Lee Laboratory are:
The Geisler & Geisler-Lee laboratory has a tradition to graduate competent and elite students. In the past (2006 – present), more than 50% of the students graduating from the laboratory were awarded internal and/or external creative and/or research awards for their products. More than 70% of the students had creative and/or research products. Moreover, all of them (100%) are good lab/society citizen abiding rules and a team member.
How does the Geisler & Geisler-Lee Laboratory operate?
The Geisler & Geisler-Lee laboratory has had a system in mentoring its members (visiting scholars, graduate and undergraduate students). See the attachment for the details. In the past (2006-present), two students (of more than 40) were asked to depart due to their inability to fulfill the aforementioned (1) goal while four students were given grievance and/or warnings due to inability to follow instructions to fulfill the (2) goal.
The culture of the Geisler & Geisler-Lee Laboratory:
The Geisler & Geisler-Lee Laboratory strives to create an environment that every member can help one another to self improve so the phenomenon of “a rising tide lifts all boats" will occur among our lab members.
